My wife was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer and Dr. Keerthi was the first surgeon I consulted. After my first session with him, I was convinced I didn't need to go anywhere else. And I am extremely glad that I decided not to look elsewhere. After a wisely chosen neo-adjuvant chemo cycle of 3 sessions, Dr. Keerthi performed a 100% successful cytoreduction with HIPEC procedure that lasted nearly 16+ hours! Let me breakdown my total experience Communication: Even before we had the final test results, Dr. Keerthi was highly detailed and clear in explaining the details of the disease and what are the different options and pathways for each stage of the disease. Once my wife's test results were out, he was quite supportive and positive yet transparent in explaining what is the true nature of the situation and what can we expect in terms of treatment and outcomes. In terms of the procedure, he was almost academic in explaining the various steps and risks at each step and also detailed what it would mean post-surgery, during recovery and beyond. Expertise: His expertise and experience both made a significant impact on the outcome for my wife. Although surgery was already planned, he took the wise decision to cancel it after doing an initial laparoscopy. While this was not a happy moment for my wife, we would realize a few months later that this was indeed the most appropriate decision by Dr. Keerthi and anything otherwise would have seriously jeopardized the outcome for my wife in the long term. He is not only honest but also very practical when it comes to taking surgical decisions. Procedure: When he met me for the first time after a 16+ hours long surgery, I was expecting to see a tired and exhausted man. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to see a man beaming with the success and satisfaction of the operation he had just performed. Even at 2:30 in the night he came out and explained in details how the surgery went. He was patient to show me the photos taken during the surgery and explain how the observations from diagnostics were operated on and then what it looked like after the surgery. Post-Operative Care: Both during the ICU stay and the nearly 2-weeks of post-operative stay, Dr. Keerthi was fully dedicated to ensuring that my wife's recovery and postop care is going on the right track. Dr. Keerthi Banavara was very professional and optimistic from the beginning of treatment for my wife. We were referred by our Gynecologist to Dr. Keerthi for the suspicious of malignancy due to large Ovarian Cyst approximately 14 cm which was very large in size from the average cyst, and after reviewing our MRI and other reports he explained us thoroughly from A to Z in our first appointment and counselled us regarding all possibilities during operation and later stages of treatment, he was very sure about approach that 90% he will go for Laparoscopic only rather than Laparotomy (Open) which he was supposed to decide on table. Then we were booked for the surgery as he advised on 2nd March 24, one day before of surgery again he called us for a briefing of surgery and post surgery plan of treatment if anything which will be clear on table after Frozen Section report. On the Day of Surgery he was there before time and did a visit to patient in room explained about surgery taken consent and then ask to shift to O.T and during surgery our Gynecologist was also present and then he took decision of doing Laparoscopic with his experience and operated. Before sending sample for frozen section analysis he called me (husband) and shown the extracted cyst along with left ovary and tube which was not possible to save due large size of cyst and sent the sample to pathology, once pathologist confirm there finding and decision 99% of benign cyst he concluded the surgery and my wife was shifted to post operative room. Dr. Keerthi met me in post operative room and make me comfortable and inform that surgery was done all ok and patient is fine and soon she will be shifted to room. After one day he came for follow up visit in room checked the wound and everything was fine. After discharge he called us for follow up appointment in OPD after 7 days and checked the stitches, and inform that everything is fine. After 10 days he called for stich removal and did the needful. Our Overall Experience was amazing and very smooth with Dr. Keerthi. He is one of the best doctor we have met in our life for such kind of critical surgery and he was very confident for his approach and explained in detail all sort of aspects for this kind of cases.
