Dr Bart van Wagensveld is a European Board-Certified General Surgeon specialising in Laparoscopic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at NMC Royal Hospital Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi and GluCare Health.

He holds a MD and PhD from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 2003, he completed his training in General Surgery at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam where he specialised in Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery. He later completed a fellowship in Pancreato-Biliary Surgery in London, UK. In 2004, he was appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon and Head of the Surgical Department at Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the Netherlands.

He later established a Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery program certified by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). Through the program, Dr van Wagensveld performed and taught thousands of laparoscopic surgeries.

He is currently the Director of the Metabolic and Bariatric Unit at NMC Royal Hospital and the Lead for Overweight and Obesity Treatment at GluCare Health. He has over 25 years of experience in both primary and revision gastric bypass surgery, mini gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, bilio-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch and single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr van Wagensveld also has a strong academic profile with over 100 peer-reviewed chapters and 2 book chapters. He held the position of President of the Dutch Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Society and holds professional memberships with the following bodies:
