Dr. Safwan Abdulrahman Taha is an experienced Surgeon, known for his expertise in metabolic and bariatric surgery. He graduated with honours from Basrah College of Medicine, Iraq, in 1983.

Earning the title of Professor of Surgery in 2000, Dr. Taha served as the founding Dean of Thi-Qar College of Medicine, Iraq, in 2003.

He holds Fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, as well as the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, he has a Specialisation Diploma in laparoscopic Surgery from Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France, and the Certificate of the Arab Board of Surgery. 

Dr. Taha was twice honoured with the esteemed "Travelling Fellowship Award" of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in 2006 and 2007. He played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Emirates Obesity Surgery Interest Group, now known as the Emirates Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ESMBS).

Currently serving as the Governor of the UAE Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and holding positions on various international surgical committees, Dr. Taha's influence extends far beyond the operating room. He is recognised as a "Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery" and "Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery" by the Surgical Review Corporation, USA.

As the Director and Lead Surgeon of the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, Dr. Taha continues to uphold the highest standards of patient care and surgical excellence. With over 37 published papers and a role as a reviewer for "Obesity Surgery," Dr. Taha remains at the forefront of advancing surgical techniques.
