Mr Yogesh Nathdwarawala has dedicated two decades to serving as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon within the NHS at Grange University Hospital, Royal Gwent Hospital, and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, also seeing private patients at St Joseph’s Hospital.
His journey began with a medical qualification in 1986, followed by intensive training in Orthopaedics which led to a Master of Surgery degree from the esteemed MS University of Baroda, India. Yogesh furthered his expertise through additional training in the UK and Germany, earning a Master's degree in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University and becoming a Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics of the Royal College of Surgeons. He enhanced his skills with a fellowship at the renowned Endo Clinic in Hamburg, Germany.
Since his appointment as a full-time Consultant in 2001, Yogesh has spearheaded the development of foot and ankle services at Nevill Hall Hospital, benefiting patients across Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, and South Powys. As the sole foot and ankle surgeon at Nevill Hall Hospital, he has gained extensive experience in a wide array of foot and ankle disorders.
Yogesh's specialist expertise includes a comprehensive range of foot and ankle practices, as well as hip and knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, and trauma care. Yogesh prioritises patient care by adopting an individualised approach, utilising both non-operative and operative treatments as necessary. He strives to alleviate patient stress by providing comprehensive explanations using various visual aids and ensuring patients are well-informed at every stage of their treatment journey.
In addition to his clinical work, Yogesh holds professional memberships with the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Indian Orthopaedic Society, and British Medical Association. He remains actively engaged in research, with ongoing projects focusing on total ankle replacements, arthritis of the big toe, and bunions. As an enthusiastic educator, he is frequently invited to share his knowledge and expertise at national and international conferences and courses.
Dedicated to quality improvement, Yogesh leads clinical governance initiatives for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, working closely with his team of nurses, physiotherapists, orthotists, and medical secretaries to deliver the highest standards of care.
