Dr Shaharyar Alikhan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over two decades of experience within medicine, specialising in general psychiatry and substance misuse psychiatry for adults. Dr Alikhan gained his medical degree from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1999, after which he undertook his Basic and Higher Specialist training in psychiatry throughout Leeds and Birmingham. During this period, Shaharyar gained Membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and undertook various in house roles within psychiatry to aid in his specialist training. He gained specialist accreditation in 2008 and has been practising psychiatryu as a Consultant ever since. In addition to these qualifications, Shaharyar also gained a Masters degree in Mental Health Law at the University of Northumbria. With his vast knowledge regarding mental health and over 20 years experience, Dr Alikhan has worked with patients from a variety of backgrounds, with a range of mental health issues. He also stays up to date with the latest and most effective psychiatric practices, as he is in good standing for Continuing Professional Development with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, regularly attending update training courses and events.

For various reasons, I had a lot of anticipatory anxiety leading up to my appointment with Dr Alikhan. Thankfully, his calm, reassuring and wholly professional attitude and friendly demeanor put me at my ease and, while I remained anxious throughout the session, I was able to articulate my responses to his gentle questions without too much added stress. It was not my choice to see Dr Alikhan, he was acting on behalf of others, which added significantly to my pre-appointment stress levels. However, if I did live more locally, I would be comfortable to employ his professional services personally.
