Mr Puveendran Arullendran is a Consultant specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgery in the North East of England. He graduated in 1991 from University College London (UCL) and following this he completed a diploma in tropical medicine. He also carried out research specifically on infectious diseases for the UK Medical Research Council in West Africa. In addition, he completed a diploma in mental health and chose to specialise in ENT since 1995. He is also known to train junior ENT doctors within the region.

In the North East of England, he established a swallow service for patients using novel techniques with the latest technology. Within the field of ENT, he especially enjoys working on chronic ear diseases and dizziness. Mr Arullendran has also been investigating three National Institute for health research (NIHR) trials in chronic rhino sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and Tinnitus.

Between 2008 and 2011 he was the Training Programme Director in the North East and he assisted the Northern region to reach the top of National League tables in ENT training. He then held the position as a committee chairman for surgical training between 2011 and 2013. Mr Arullendran has also been an examiner for The Royal College of Surgeons examination board and has lectured both nationally and internationally. He enjoys getting along well with both his colleagues and patients and he was also nominated for the 2015 Sunderland Echo Hospital doctor of the year award.
