About
I am a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based at Ramsay Fulwood Hall Hospital. I am experienced, working as a consultant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Ramsay for over 20 years. I largely specialise in hip and knee conditions, performing approximately 360 hip and knee replacements each year. I also perform hip resurfacing procedures, partial knee replacements and knee arthroscopy.
I began began my training at St Andrew's University, where I achieved a BScMed Sci degree in 1986 before going on to complete my medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Manchester. I then spent time in various junior training roles around the North West of England before embarking upon orthopaedic training in Edinburgh as well as a year-long fellowship in Adelaide, South Australia. I became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1994 and gained my FRCS (Tr&Orth) in 1999.
I enjoy clinical research and have published more than 30 peer reviewed papers in medical journals. I won the Zimmer Research Prize in 2001, and my current research interests are patient-centred outcomes in orthopaedic surgery and results of hip fracture surgery.
I have always had a passion for medical education and I am a certified orthopaedic trainer. I was an orthopaedic national examiner for 10 years to 2019 and now teach on the European Trauma Course.
