    About

Alex trained at St. Georges Hospital London before completing basic general surgical training in Kent. He went on to undertake research into the effects of reperfusion injury following Aortic aneurysm repair at Northwick Park hospital and then completed his higher surgical and vascular training in the south west.

In order to pursue his interest in endovenous therapies he was appointed a senior vascular and endovascular fellowship at the nationally renowned Freeman Hospital vascular unit in Newcastle and was subsequently asked to take up a consultant post there. Alex returned to the south in 2013 with his young family to assume the post of consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at the Dorset County Hospital, part of the Dorset and Wiltshire NHS Vascular Network.

In concert with his good friend and colleague James Metcalfe, they have formed the Dorset County Vascular Group and along with their radiologists and associated specialists they continually strive to be champions for excellence and innovation for all their patients.

I would not hesitate to highly recommend Mr Watson as a consultant/surgeon for vascular & endovascular issues. He is a very affable and easy-to-talk-to consultant who explains, in a simple to understand way, your problems, your options and the treatments available on a risk/benefit basis. I am delighted to be under his care.

Mr Watson was very easy to communicate with using clear comprehensible explanations. The procedure was clearly explained as were my alternatives. The procedure itself was carried out well and I understood both what was happening and what happened next. I'm very pleased with what was done and the positive outcome.

Very professional, but also has a friendly and relaxed approach to his work. Put me at ease with answering all of my questions and talked me through the whole procedure, explaining exactly what was happening and showing me pictures on the monitor. Although I was nervous at the start, he made me feel very relaxed and there was actually lots of chatting and laughter throughout my procedure, which definitely helped.

I went to the consultation with a little apprehension but within the first minute of meeting Alex I was at ease and very comfortable. His explanation of the various procedures related to my problem was comprehensive, explained clearly, without any ambiguous terms whatsoever. The choices for treatment on offer were fully explained with both pros and cons detailed. Never have I left a medical appointment so fully relaxed and being able to grin about the wonderful sense of humour that Alex possesses. A true gentleman.

Thank you for your kind words. I always treat people as I would want to be treated and understand how seeing any doctor can make people feel anxious about what they are going to hear or seeming silly, stupid of vain. In my opinion there are no silly questions and every concern is a valid one. So don’t worry at all.
