Very good explanation of the problem I have . Informative and gave the time for me to understand what really is the cause of the pain.

Explanation

I had been struggling walking for 6 months and an X-ray had shown no abnormality. As my favourite hobby is walking the fells in the Lakes this severely affected my life, my health and my mental health. My physio recommended Simon and said ‘don’t settle for anyone else’. I saw Simon for a Zoom consultation and he recommended an ultrasound scan to see what was going on. We then met face to face to discuss treatment. The scan had shown bursitis and Simon performed tests on my calves as well as thoroughly examining my foot. He explained everything as he went along and thought the condition may have been brought on by very tight calf muscles. He explained this may result in an operation on my calf but that I could have an injection in my foot first to see if that helped. He gave me the option and I asked loads of questions which he answered fully. I decided on the injection as the less invasive option as there was the possibility the pain may not return. He did make me aware the pain could return and then we would look at the options again. He said he could do the injection straight away and I said yes even though I was a bit nervous. He went through the risks and asked if I had any questions. He put me completely at ease though and I honestly barely felt him do the injection. He told me the injection could take a few weeks to work although it was sometimes quicker. He had given me an email address so I could contact him if I had any questions. Later that night I realised I hadn’t got BUPA authority. I emailed him with my predicament expecting he would reply in the next few days. I couldn’t believe it when he replied immediately saying he would get his secretary to hold off sending the bill until I’d spoken to BUPA. This was all sorted out the following day. He really exceeded my expectations in answering all queries very quickly and saying he would pass things on so I didn’t have to. He then emailed me a few days later to ask how my foot was. Again, this completely exceeded my expectations. My foot at that point wasn’t much better. However about a week after the injection I started to feel real benefit. I can now walk again and this is making so much difference to me. I’ve now booked a holiday to the Lakes in September and can’t wait to get out there. I can honestly say I’ve met many consultants due to my back problems but I’ve never met anyone as personable and helpful as Simon. I can see why my physio raves about him. She said ‘if anyone can sort your foot out, Simon can’. I have total trust in him and will also be raving about how good he is. I only wish he was a back consultant too!

A very relaxed but still professional approach to my consultation. I felt fully involved in the process and the questioning technique drilled down very well to provide a plan of action and treatment. A great experience in every aspect of the process.
