I first met Otto at Sulis Bath in March 2022 as a self funded patient, suffering from extreme pain in lower back. After a swiftly arranged MRI scan, Otto took time to explain exactly what had been found and various long and short term solutions to consider. At no time did I feel pressured, but given clear and repeated advice on benefits and possible negatives to each solution. Throughout the process, Otto was extremely detailed and happy to share experiences of himself and others he has worked with over the years. I selected to have a steroid injection which saw me being able to enjoy the summer holiday. In September, the prolapse became significantly worse, Otto arranged a Microdisectomy which took place the following week. During the Pre Assessment, it was discovered I had a UTI which resulted in Otto calling me explaining the risk of infection and something he wasn't prepared to ignore. Surgery was delayed for two weeks until early October 2022. Throughout the entire process, Mr Van Arx was nothing more than exceptionally professional, kind and had a great reassuring bedside manner. This was extended to my very worried and concerned wife and teenage daughter. He gave them complete confidence & reassurance. Unknown to Otto, but solely due to his caring given to my daughter, she is now looking to train in the medical profession once her GCSEs are taken next month. The week before my surgery, I could only walk a maximum of 129 steps per day. Exactly seven months after surgery, today I have just reached 1,000,000 steps (460 miles). Thank you so much, totally given back my life.

Mr Von Arx is the perfect mix of professionalism, reassurance, approachability and extensive range of knowledge. He reassured me from the outset, that we would get to the bottom of my continuous, nagging pain in my lower back. In actual fact, his initial diagnosis, after a physical examination, was confirmed by an MRI - he had already pinpointed where my problem was in my first consultation. Amazing! He chatted over all my options clearly and concisely, without pressure, but continued reassurance. My admission as a day patient, followed by facet joint injections under sedation, were a stress less experience under his care. He never made me feel rushed or anxious. I am pleased to report my recovery happened just as he had predicted - with almost pin point accuracy… within a day or so of his prediction. I will always be grateful to Otto for his care and attention.

The experience with Mr Von Arx was great, from the very outset everything was explained and discussed so that the correct course of action was taken. Unfortunately for me it resulted in surgery for resolution, but again, everything was discussed in detail and made to feel comfortable all the way through. This was the same for post operative care. In addition to this the wider team who provided the care also deserve recognition.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve struggled with leg pain and a feeling that I was not longer in full control my legs.
