You will receive a link to a website with a series of videos by Mr Ferris describing and demonstrating what is going to happen. I watched everything several times: it is fascinating. All surgery has risks and there is a video discussing these, and the low probability associated with each. As a result of this preparation I was fairly relaxed on the day, not without some trepidation, but certain I was in good hands. Without exception, the team at Tetbury hospital work to reinforce this conviction. During the operation Mr Ferris talks you through the stages and the various sensations you will experience - but there is absolutely no pain! I was offered and accepted the opportunity to have both eyes operated on, on the same day. I am delighted that this was possible. Everything was completed between 13.00 and 15.00 on the day. The immediate impact, as my wife drove me home on a sunny afternoon, was how very very bright everything was. I wished I had thought to bring dark sunglasses with big lenses to the appointment; to put on over the clear eye shields provided to protect the eyes for the first 24 hours and the next 3 nights. Whilst I watched the 6 o clock news that evening, I became increasingly aware that colours were becoming more and more vivid. Amazing! The improvements in my vision continued to develop for several days and for the first time in 49 years I do not need spectacles on my face throughout the day. I can focus clearly from about 3 feet to infinity. (I still need them to read messages on my phone screen and similar close up work.) After spending time with Mr Ferris to discuss my eye condition and the options available to me, I was very confident that he would be able to improve my eyesight and that is exactly what happened. The surgery was brief and successful, my double vision has been eliminated and I no longer require prisms in my glasses. My recovery was swift - I was back at work within two weeks and after six weeks I could complete most daily tasks without prescription glasses. A great experience from start to finish from initial contact with Carole-Anne through to consultation, operation and follow-up appointment with Mr Ferris. He has a lovely manner that made me feel so much at ease and everything was explained beforehand. I felt totally reassured throughout the operation. From the start, having asked Mr. Ferris to deal with my cataracts, I felt that I had chosen the right consultant and felt totally relaxed and confident. I was given the links to three excellent videos that he has made and that clearly explain what is involved in cataract surgery and gives an overview of the various lens options that are available. At the first appointment he recommended that I had both eyes treated at the same time as I have astigmatism and there is a large difference between my eyes. He explained what replacement lenses he proposed and explained why. We agreed on a date for the operation. Before the operation, I viewed a further video that showed an operation in progress – fascinating and informative. I understood precisely what would be carried out on my eyes. The whole operation took about 30 minutes and was entirely painless. But I had vision and with it some spectacular light effects to keep me entertained. My dilated pupils returned to normal overnight and the next morning I had near perfect distance vision without spectacles. Colours were very much brighter and I needed sunglasses when I ventured out. Over the weeks, as my brain adapted to the new norm, this effect has worn off. I still require spectacles for reading and other close work but as we’re talking about 1 diopter lenses, I can buy them cheaply off the peg. Two other benefits I’ve found so far and that hadn’t occurred to me beforehand, are that I can now buy good sunglasses rather than rely on the inadequate protection provided by prescription transition lenses and I am able to use binoculars, something I found difficult when wearing spectacles. Friends who have had cataract replacement were surprised that both eyes were operated on in the same session, but I found it no problem at all and it meant that all was done and dusted in one session. To sum up, the whole process was stress free and straightforward. So, many thanks Mr. Ferris for your warm care and attention. I am very pleased with the outcome. To others I would say “don’t worry”.

My experience with Mr Ferris was a very positive one - My Journey from referral to discharge was smooth - timely - and very professional. The website I was directed to before my first consultation gave all the information I needed and was easy to use and navigate around. My appointments were very timely, that is within a a few days after referral I had a telephone consultation followed by a face to face the day after, both with Mr Ferris. It was decided that I could have both eyes done on the same day . The surgery took place within 6 weeks of referral at Tetbury Hospital - The procedure was quick - no more than 20 per eye - a completely painless experience and within an hour both eyes had been treated - my vision improved immediately - There was a bit of light sensitivity for a few days but wearing sunglasses fixed that - I was able to continue with normal life activities with out any issues almost immediately - My vision is now the best it has ever been - colours are so much brighter and everything is so much sharper - having lens replacement surgery was the best decision I ever made and has been life changing for me - I was very nervous about having eye surgery but really there was nothing to worry about - it was pain free - quick and the results are amazing Thank you very much Mr Ferris.
