Declan is the most excellent surgeon for prostatectomy one can ever find in the UK. I did extensive research before choosing the right surgeon for my father and gladly I found Declan who has not only performed the greatest number of surgeries but also adopted the newest techniques. My father travelled all the way from China just to meet Declan in early 2020. He was quickly assessed, had the examinations done and had his prostate removed within just one month after his arrival. The whole process went so smoothly and well. He recovered speedily with no complaint of discomfort, and his urinary control was nearly the same as before. Declan has the top-notch skills undoubtedly. The post-surgery pathology showed negative surgical margins, which was the best result we could get. Besides, Declan also shows perfect bedside manners. During the most difficult times, it is him who supported me and my family all along the way. Being super caring, patient and detail-oriented, he just had the power to calm me down and comfort me when I was totally lost in terminologies. He really listened, and provided detailed answers to all my questions. I would highly recommend Declan to anyone who seeks prostatectomy. He is simply the best. I tried to post this long ago but for unknown reasons, it was checked. Just trying to post it again here and hopefully someone would benefit from this review.

Cannot recommend Mr Cahill enough. If you get to the point where you meet Mr Cahill it means your symptoms are quite serious. But he provides a very professional and caring perspective to what can seem like a dark place. With that, and no small humour, he enabled me to navigate some difficult times which we came out of successfully together. I will be forever grateful.

The biopsy, operation and rehabilitation are all excellent - virtually no continence after the operation. It is a fantastic experience and I will recommend him and his team members without hesitation.

Communication, and preparation for the operation were excellent, with suggested videos to watch and exercises to do and telephone calls with Mr Cahill, all instilling confidence as a patient.

Ever since I first met Declan, I felt welcomed, cared for and confident that he could help me. Being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer (Localised Stage T2bN0M0 Gleason 4+3) was a surprise as I only had a slightly raised PSA level and no other symptoms. He is extremely knowledgeable and personable, and I am so glad that I was referred to him by the Urological Consultant who first diagnosed my cancer. Declan patiently answered all my questions – ensure you write them down! – and we came to the conclusion that a RARP was the best way forward for me. I had this at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Declan called me the night before surgery to ask if I had any questions and then after surgery called my wife to tell her that everything had gone as well as it could have. Apart from the uncomfortable catheter for 10 days, my recovery in the first few weeks after surgery went well with no problems and virtually no fatigue that I had been expecting to experience. Many thanks as well to Netty Kinsella who I saw before the surgery – her advice re diet and prune juice after surgery worked well! Also, thanks to Julie for being so efficient in organising all of my appointments etc. At every appointment I have had with Declan and/or Netty they never rushed us – apologies if anyone was waiting to see them – and we always left feeling that my care was of the utmost priority to them. My first PSA level after the surgery was undetectable which was great news. I will need regular PSA tests for a few years and whilst there are no guarantees from this surgery, I feel that Declan has given me the best chance of being cancer free and that if I do experience any ‘hiccups’ he will be able to help me deal with them.

In the initial consultations I found Declan very easy to talk with. His description of the diagnosis, and the options, were clear and helpful. He was great in the pre-op, setting out the risks and how things would likely pan out, was solid and straightforward. And then the operation went well in every respect. I knew that, in such operations, there can be complications when the surgeon gets in there. But I was confident in Declan’s experience, plus being in the peak of his profession, and his determination to do the best that was possible. And so it was: no adventures, and a great result. Everything spot-on. Finally, his post-op support and advice has been excellent. I’m very glad I found him.

I went to Declan for a second opinion and I was so impressed with the thorough way he reviewed my case that I stayed with him. He listened to my concerns and provided clear information helping me to choose between treatments. His manner is friendly, clear, and very supportive keeping in touch by phone, zoom, email and face to face meetings before during and after surgery. His reassuring call to my wife immediately after surgery was very much appreciated. The outcome of my surgery was far better than I had expected which clearly reflects his skill. He is supported by a team skilled in their own fields who clearly hold him in high esteem. I'm very glad that I chose to consult him. Thank you for your work and care Declan.
