Dr Kariyawasam has been very supportive of both myself and my daughter in learning how to manage her condition, taking time to explain, to understand concerns, and to respond to extra questions and requests despite a very busy schedule. As a parent of a teen coming to terms with T1 diabetes it has been a great relief to know that, while I am not in the consultations, my daughter will feel consulted rather than told, and able to ask without judgement. Being a teen is a sensitive time anyway and T1 just escalates the potential issues so it is key that she feels treated and listened to as an individual, which I think she is by Dr Kariyawasam. Learning the mechanics is one thing, learning how to deal with all day every day and building trust in herself has really helped my daughter, so she isn't defined by her condition, it is just part of who she is. I think Dr Kariyawasam has been a big part of building that confidence and mindset.
