Dr Saagar Mahida, changed my life. I am a keen middle aged cyclist (47) and was suffering from paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) for the last 10 years. In October last year (2022) the AF changed to persistent and I decided to seek additional help as I was getting nowhere on the NHS. During my consultation Dr Saagar Mahida, spoke about my options for treatment and made it very clear the pros and cons of treatments available in a manner that I could understand and digest and spent time with me answering my questions. I quickly decided an ablation procedure was the right treatment for me. On the day before the procedure the anesthetist let Dr Saagar Mahida down due to having covid. Dr Saagar Mahida, phoned me personally explaining the situation that the procedure could be delayed a month or we could continue without sedation. Over the phone he explained exactly how the procedure would go and what I would feel. We must have been on the phone for a good 30 minutes and I was amazed by his attention to detail and his level of care. He also explained he would do his very best to find an anesthetist in the morning should I want to continue.... I decided to continue with the ablation procedure the next day. On the day of the procedure Dr Saagar Mahida never gave up trying to find an anesthetist but sadly one could not be found so we continued as planned. I was in persistent AF and I was panicking to say the least, to say my heart rate was through the roof was an understatement. However, from the moment I arrived in the operating room Dr Saagar Mahida greeted me and before he started the procedure or went on to the next step, he explained what he was about to do and what was to be expected. I find it difficult to put into words the level of trust and ease he made me feel during this difficult anxious time. After the procedure he came to see me on the ward and spent time with me explaining how it went and what I was to expect next during the recovery phase. 3 months later I am in normal rhythm and off all medication and back to cycling which I love. If anyone is suffering with atrial fibrillation I could not recommend Dr Saagar Mahida enough.
