Dr Dhillon attained his medical degree from Imperial College London in 2009 with an intercalating honours bachelor’s degree in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He undertook postgraduate training, rotating through hospitals in London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Following completion of his training, he underwent further specialist training during a 3-year post-CCT advanced endoscopy fellowship post at St Mark’s Hospital, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for intestinal disorders and endoscopy.
During this time, he conducted research into the diagnosis and treatment of precancer and early cancer in the bowel and trained in advanced endoscopic techniques for safe and effective removal of gastrointestinal polyps. He has published widely in areas of endoscopy and inflammatory bowel disease and been award multiple travel grants to present his work internationally.
Dr Dhillon was appointed as a Consultant at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in 2021. He is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he leads the complex polypectomy and capsule endoscopy service. He is a National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme accredited endoscopist and performs regular screening colonoscopy lists at the University Hospital Lewisham which is the bowel cancer screening hub for South East London.
His specialist interests remain wide including the diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders affecting the oesophagus (e.g. swallowing problems, heartburn), stomach (e.g. ulcers, bloating), small and large bowel (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerance, bacterial overgrowth), and liver (e.g. jaundice, fatty liver).
He prides himself on performing the highest quality and comfortable day-case gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures for both diagnosis and therapy. His outpatient services include investigation of all gastrointestinal symptoms to diagnose and treat functional and organic disorders. Dr Dhillon prioritises a holistic approach to healthcare by ensuring the wider impact of a patient’s symptoms on their life is addressed and that they are fully involved in the subsequent therapeutic decision-making process.

I saw Dr Dhillon last November. He listened attentively to all my symptoms, which put me at ease and made me feel confident in his expertise. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Dhillon was very friendly which helped me to feel less nervous and his reassurance was very comforting. I greatly appreciate that he was always reachable and willing to answer any questions I had. Overall, I can’t recommend Dr Dhillon highly enough.

After my initial colonoscopy, my consultant referred me to Dr. Dhillon to assess for removal of two complex polyps by ESD. While being a real expert in his field, he has a friendly, reassuring and approachable manner. He is empathetic and takes time to answer questions and carefully explain his treatment plan and decisions. As a patient, I felt understood and listened to. Dr. Dhillon devoted extra time to giving me a thorough second colonoscopy and polypectomy, so that ESD surgery was not needed in the end. I have recovered well and been given the all-clear to enjoy life. I cannot thank him enough for my successful outcome.

Dr Dhillon is excellent at what he does.I had a particularly difficult and tricky issue which he dealt with expertly. I am also prone to polyps which he has removed without any side effects whatsoever. And he has a calm and cheerful bedside manner which really helps the whole experience. How to approach Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of death from cancer in the UK. Endoscopic polypectomy of premalignant at-risk polyps can prevent the development of CRC. This review describes the place of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) in therapeutic colonoscopy, clarifying its capabilities and limits, as well as describing newer methods and adjuncts to EMR designed to prevent and treat recurrence of colorectal polyps.

Enhancing the quality of endoscopic resection of large colorectal polyps
Endoscopic resection of premalignant lesions from the colorectum can prevent the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). This is largely dependent on the quality of colonoscopy performed and can be divided into 3 areas: lesion detection, lesion resection, and appropriate surveillance. Quality assurance programs and colonoscopy quality indicators have been developed to ensure that endoscopists operate within accepted standards of care.
