I have had my hip replaced by Mr Griffiths and the whole experience from my outpatient appointment to the surgery has been amazing. I've been told by others how good he was and I can fully recommend him. He is thorough and quickly diagnosed my problem. I recovered from he surgery quickly and have had no pain since the operation. I was walking the same day!

I arrived at the Hampshire Clinic at 12.15 on Monday, 11th November for a caudal epidural and nerve root block to my lower spine to be administered by Mr Andrew Quaile. My name was called a few minutes later by an unsmiling woman who did not greet me, but took me to the stairs and asked sharply ‘Can you climb stairs?’. I replied that I was sorry but I needed the lift. Clearly, with a slipped disc pressed on a nerve root, I was in pain and not able to walk easily, but this person was completely uninterested, did not speak again, and simply looked at her feet while in the lift. She hurried down the corridor to my room, leaving me way behind. I had to ask her if she would put my small wheelie suitcase on the bed, which she did reluctantly, and left. As soon as she had gone, another unsmiling woman stood there waiting for my food order, then a third woman arrived (before I had even time to sit down) and complained rudely that I had not given the insurance pre-assessment number and procedure code as they were not marked on her form. In fact, both my husband and I had provided all the right insurance details on Friday, 8th November, when we spoke on the phone to a woman from the Hampshire Clinic who announced herself only as Caroline, and said she must have these numbers by 4pm because that was when she was leaving work. We had given all the right information, but obviously it had not been entered on the form correctly. The Hampshire Clinic staff therefore blame the patient for their own mistakes. All four women were extremely rude and should not be working in a customer service position. The only member of staff who was caring and courteous was the nurse who looked after me after the procedure, when I had returned to my room. I had been told to get undressed and put on a gown but, on inspecting the room (Number 8) I found no cupboard, nor even a hook or coat hanger for my clothes. I noticed that the bedside cupboard was so old and battered that it was fit only for the junkyard. Also that the central heating was not working, instead a plug-in radiator made the room either too hot or freezing cold. These are disgraceful fixtures and fittings for a private hospital, and also demonstrate a total lack of professional care. After my long walk to theatre, I was made to sit on a stool with wheels for 15 minutes in an ante-room. A woman called Casey (from whom I received the first smile that day) asked me if I would prefer her, or the anaesthetist to insert the cannula to my hand. I opted for the anaesthetist (my mistake) who made a terrible hash of this simple procedure, it hurt horribly, and a large black bruise covered the whole of my hand for nearly a week afterwards. Perhaps it is easier to insert a cannula when the hand is supported, rather than while the patient is perched on a stool with their hand in the air? Dreadful experience, will never return to this hospital.
