First class; far more discreet, focussed and client orientated than I had anticipated. Dr Patel was absolutely superb in his handling of my issues.

I felt things were very disjointed. Daytime nurses were great and very helpful they’d top my water up and check I was comfortable however, the night staff wasn’t great with checking my comfort or pain relief, they were doing blood pressure etc checks but not asking how i felt or how my pain was, I asked for pain relief and was questioned where my pain was - I’d had a hysteractomy so clearly in pain, I was eventually given pain relief namely paracetamol at around 4am and hadn’t had anything since early evening after surgery. I paid private and my expectations of more hands on care during the night was not fulfilled at all. I should not have been in a position where I had to ask a few times for pain relief at night. I ordered a meal for the first evening to then be told I would be on a clear liquid diet for a few days. I ordered soup for my last meal as surgeon said clear/soft foods for a few days to then be told by a nurse I need a meal to gain my strength back so when I say disjointed it didn’t seem all staff were singing off the same hymn sheet and this left me confused in that do I listen to surgeon or a nurse. I’m Still on soft foods and choose to take surgeons advice. Given I paid privately, the only perk I felt with this was my own room. I didn’t sleep much because my door was kept opened at all times and I was opposite the main desk so it was very noisy even during early hours. My husband was told to ask for a hot drink if he wanted one and he had to then remind each time upon which he was brought tea not coffee so it had to be changed. He waited two hours for his cup of coffee. I actually couldn’t wait to leave as didn’t feel I had the level of care at night that I paid for overall. Surgeon was a very lovely man and I was very pleased with him and also the anaesthetist was great.

The Lister Fertility Clinic at the Portland is a busy clinic, and seems to be generally well run. However we have seen a different nurse/doctor almost every time (apart from our consultant who we saw twice out of the 7 appointments during our first egg collection cycle). If a consistent touch point is important to you then this is something to be aware of. The variety has led to a mixed experience, with some lovely nurses and experiences and some less good ones. In particularly it seems like information isn’t consistently passed on, such as allergies (quite important) to preferred name (important but not vital). In addition its odd after a long appointment to go through details that the same day a nurse calls to confirm questions that weren’t raised during the session. It’s good that they are asking the questions and checking, but a little frustrating that they aren’t raised in the appointment, and it doesn’t project organisation. This may change when they have the app they are developing released. However the care during the intervention sessions, such as when we were doing egg collection was brilliant.

Dr Tanwar and team did an excellent job. Friendly and reassuring. However leading up to the appointment was stressful. Over a week ago I received confirmation to arrive for 8am on the day and that I would be 2nd on the list. Few days later had another call that unfortunately the anaesthetist won't be available until later that day so is 11am on to arrive? No problem for me so confirmed several times over the phone to arrive for 11am. On the day of the appointment in the morning I received a missed call around 9.30am. When calling back I was told to leave asap as the 1st person is already in theatre (even though I was told to arrive at 11am). I believe I spoke to Lisa. I rushed to reception and signed in at 10.30am, only to be told that 11am was the correct time. Whilst waiting in reception I had another missed call from St Barts, when calling back Lisa answered again who said don't worry as 11am is the time I'm booked in for and that she couldn't locate who kept ringing me. Funny enough I arrived at the hospital, was greeted by Dr Tanwar who walked in too. Therefore the person who was ringing and told me that the 1st person was already in theatre was lying. Not a good experience at all. Rushing around like this I think resulted in high blood pressure reading when I was admitted to my room. Overall rest of team who I met were great.
