Mr. William Gaine is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon based at Sligo University Hospital, where he has served since 2003. His specialist interests include hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as paediatric orthopaedics. Mr. Gaine also has extensive expertise in trauma and fracture management, providing regular on-call services. 

Mr. Gaine graduated in Medicine from University College Dublin in 1985 and later earned his Dentistry degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1989. He initially trained in maxillofacial surgery in London before specialising in orthopaedics, completing advanced training in Glasgow, Manchester, Toronto, and Brisbane. In 2001, he was admitted to the Specialist Register of the Royal College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics and Trauma Division).

Beyond his surgical practice, Mr. Gaine has completed a Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s degree in Medical Law, an MSc in Orthopaedic Technology and Rehabilitation, and an MBA. He is also a Member of the Institution of Directors. His research has been published extensively in leading journals, and he is the author of Men’s Health – Staying Alive Over 50.

He holds professional memberships with the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Hip Society, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons.
