prof Timothy Lynch

Prof Timothy Lynch is a Consultant Neurologist.

Prof Lynch graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1984 and completed a Bsc Pharmacology in 1986. He trained at the “Richmond” hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin in General Medicine before doing Paediatrics & Paediatric Neurology at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children Crumlin, Dublin. He completed a three year Neurology Residency (1990-1993) followed by a two year Movement Disorder and Molecular Neurogentics Fellowship at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York.

In 1998, Prof Lynch started as a Consultant Neurologist and has developed an academic Department of Neurology. He is the founder and Director of the Dublin Neurological Institute which was opened in September 2008. Prof Lynch was appointed Professor of Neurology, University College Dublin in 2007.

Prof Lynch has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles about neurology, genetics of Parkinson's disease and movement disorders, neurodegeneration, multiple sclerois, Whipple's disease and other brain and mind disorders. He collaborates with research groups at the Mayo Clinic USA, University College London UK, National Institute of Health, Dept of Medical Engineering UCD and TCD, Charles Institute UCD, Systems Biology UCD and the Conway Institute, University College Dublin.
