About Dr Syed Anwar
Dr Syed Anwar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based at Beacon Hospital and a JAG-certified Endoscopist. He also holds a Specialty Certificate in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the Royal College of Physicians in the UK.He has MRCP degree from UK.
After completing his gastroenterology training, Dr Anwar undertook an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Queen’s University Hospital in London. During this fellowship, he developed extensive expertise in ERCP, EUS, large polypectomy, therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, and colon cancer surveillance. Following this advanced training, he worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Queen’s University Hospital, London.
Dr Anwar relocated to Ireland in 2018 and spent five years working at Tallaght University Hospital. He has broad experience in managing complex gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hepatic failure, and Barrett’s oesophagus, alongside providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services.
He has a strong interest in teaching and education and has authored a number of academic publications. Dr Anwar’s clinical practice encompasses general gastroenterology, colon cancer screening, and both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. He is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Irish Society of Gastroenterology, the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation, United European Gastroenterology, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr Anwar was absolutely brilliant with me today. He listened very carefully to my concerns and my anxiety about the procedure and took all of that into account and I was delighted at how my procedure went. Had a flare up that was having a serve impact on my daily life. Once contact was made as a request for a review consultation I was see promptly. Agreed test were promptly arranged which led to discovery of the cause of my flare up. I wish for an alternative to surgery this was discussed in length and a suitable alternative was found. This procedure was then performed in a timely manner.
