Dr. Michell Cruz

Dr Michell Cruz is a Consultant in Internal Medicine with a specialist interest in infectious diseases, HIV medicine and cancer prevention. He qualified as a doctor in Venezuela in 2013 before continuing his postgraduate specialist training in Spain, where he completed his specialist degree in Internal Medicine in 2020. During his training, he was awarded the Outstanding Resident Award by the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine.

Dr Cruz has worked across university hospitals and specialist clinics in both Spain and Ireland. He currently serves as a Locum Consultant in Genitourinary and HIV Medicine at St James’s Hospital, where he leads the development of Ireland’s first High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) service for the early detection of anal cancer and precancerous HPV-related changes, particularly in patients living with HIV. He is also a member of the International Anal Neoplasia Society European Task Force.

Throughout his career, Dr Cruz has managed a broad range of infectious diseases and has led infection prevention and control initiatives, including the development of sepsis protocols and clinical training programmes for healthcare professionals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he directed infection prevention strategies for major organisations across Europe.

His clinical interests include HIV management, HPV-related disease, sexual health and preventative medicine, with a strong focus on early diagnosis and evidence-based patient care. Dr Cruz is committed to improving access to specialist services and supporting patients through clear communication, education and personalised treatment planning.
