I found this to be an efficient and reassuring experience, all stages were explained to me and I knew had I had any difficulties I could have asked any questions. thankfully everything went smoothly and I have a good result
I was very pleased with my appointment for Mr Stephenson
see copy of my email to Mr Stephenson thanking him for outstanding service received: (Also, on my recommendation, my wife saw him yesterday and will be getting cataract removal soon..She was very nervous and now is looking forward to it after meeting him.) "On the night of 26th January you very kindly opened up the Opthamology Dept after hours and examined me. I was most anxious that Mr Nicholas Brennan Mater Public Eye Unit be communicated with and informed about the various issues discovered by the Mater Private Team and that there would be some co-ordination between both hospital teams. You very kindly offered to meet with Mr Brennan. He rang me the next day and I am pleased to say that he performed a vitrectomy last Monday and all is going well. Without your intervention this would not have happened as quick. I know that you came specially after a long day in the Childrens Hospital and I thank you most sincerely. Thank you for your professionalism, compassion, empathy, easy manner and for giving me hope at a vulnerable time." Kind Regards,
My experience with Mr. Stephenson was excellent. He is professional, approachable and easy going. He's very communicative, clear in his descriptions. He's also very patient, didn't rush me out, and took time to answer my various questions. I would happily recommend him to anyone else needing eye-care. I would also note that the other staff (the people who did the actual scans and the admin staff in the offices) in the eye centre were all excellent. Helpful, pleasant, professional, patient, compassionate.
Overall, an excellent experience. kirk was courtious, attentive and very knowledgeable. i was very happy with my experience
Mr Stephenson, and exceptionally nice ,kind Gentleman. I was very nervous, but he made me feel so much at ease.Highly recommend him..
Excellent. On finding a small problem I was offered laser treatment there and then. Couldn’t be more impressed. Mr Stephen is a pleasure to work with.
Dr Stephenson saw my 20 year old son; who is autistic, non verbal, has meltdowns and panics, and is also 6ft tall weighing in at just over 22 stone. He is a challenge for any healthcare professional. Dr Stephenson was exceptionally good with him: obviously well qualified, very experienced and confidently handled him in an extremely gentle way. He was able to do a complete medical (eye) assessment in a relatively short time, something no other healthcare person, doctor or consultant has been able to achieve in the last 3 years, and as my son also has diabetes it was ca great relief to get it done. Doctors don't come any better than that!
Some time after having cataracts removed from both eyes I had problems with double vision and had seen doctors in the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear hospital on two occasions. They could not help me. They suggested I see an optician which I did. Twice. This did not help either. On a later visit to the RVE&E I had the very good fortune to be seen by Dr. Kirk Stephenson. What a difference. He took great care to explain everything he did and was patient and gentle throughout the examination. At the end of the consultation he suggested a short laser treatment which I agreed to. It was as if he waved a magic wand. My eyesight was immediately fixed and has remained so. The double vision was apparently caused by some 'detritus' in the eye after the cataract laser treatment. I cannot recommend Dr. Stephenson highly enough. He is superb.
I trained with Kirk and have always found him to be an honest, hard-working, and excellent colleague. He is an outstanding retinal specialist with sound clinical judgement and a breadth of knowledge—particularly in paediatric inherited retinal diseases—that is second to none. He has an excellent manner with patients: calm, clear, and approachable. Over the years he has been very supportive with challenging retinal cases, and his advice has consistently been thoughtful and reliable. He is a truly valued colleague, and patients are very fortunate to have him caring for them.
