Dr Julie O'Brien

Dr Julie O'Brien is a Consultant Radiologist and Adjunct Senior Clinical Lecturer. They obtained their medical degree from University College Dublin. Following radiology training, Dr O'Brien completed three subspecialty fellowships in Vancouver, Canada. Dr O'Brien is the current Chair of the cardiac imaging subcommittee of the Faculty of Radiologists in Ireland and is a co-opted member of the committee of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging and British Society of Cardiac CT.

Dr O'Brien has a special interest in cardiac imaging, including cardiac computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). They primarily use cardiac CT to evaluate coronary arteries, including stents and bypass grafts. Dr O'Brien also utilises cardiac CT in structural heart disease and for the evaluation of the aorta. They use CMR to evaluate the myocardium due to its excellent tissue characterisation. Additionally, Dr O'Brien uses cine imaging to calculate ejection fraction and wall motion.
