About Professor John Lambert

Professor John Lambert is a consultant in Medicine and Infectious Diseases with appointments at the Mater Public and Private Hospitals and the Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin. He is a Professor at the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science. With a career spanning over two decades, Professor Lambert has gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on Long Covid, Lyme Disease, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections (STDs).

Professor Lambert began his medical training in New York State, where he gained firsthand experience evaluating and diagnosing Lyme Disease patients. During his time at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, he contributed to the evaluation of the then soon-to-be-licensed Lyme Vaccine and served as a member of the Data Safety and Monitoring Board for this vaccine. Over the past 40 years, he has continued to diagnose and treat Lyme infections, managing cases contracted both domestically within Ireland, the UK and internationally.

Throughout his career, Professor Lambert has made significant contributions to HIV research, focusing on drug studies, the management of HIV and hepatitis C co-infection, and therapeutic drug monitoring in pregnancy. His work includes over 10 book chapters and more than 80 peer-reviewed articles on infectious diseases, vaccines, HIV, and STDs, establishing him as a leading authority in his field.

Our Approach to Long COVID Treatment:

Professor Lambert consults patients at his private clinics in Dublin, Ireland, and Edinburgh, UK

The main focus of Long Covid treatment needs to be 'neuro rehabilitation', with training the brain to repair the damage done and taking medicines and supplements that will decrease the inflammation and repair the immune damage done by the COVID-19 virus.

Long Covid is a term used to describe those who are still unwell at least three months following their acute COVID-19 infection. The symptoms are widely varied, as the Long Covid virus attacks many parts of the body. However, the underlying mechanism appears to be brain and nerve inflammation, and most patient symptoms are a function of the damage to the nervous system. With time, some people improve, but many with Long Covid, up to thirty per cent in some studies, including studies we have done ourselves at our Long Covid Clinic in Dublin, have persistent pain syndromes, brain fog, head pressures, concentration problems, energy problems, and mood problems. This can be mild or can be debilitating.

I flew over from England for the consultation and I arrived almost 2 hours before appointment and was very kindly seen early. It was great to be acknowledged for the multiple health issues and, although no certainties, to have a realistic opportunity to treat my condition. My complex health needs were considered and I was given a personal management plan, advice on if I became worse or concerned and how to book follow up appointment. Professor Lambert gave copious explanations and had a very pleasant calm manner. He was a lovely gentle gentleman.

I have been to Dr. Lambert 3 times. Every time but especially the last two visits I experienced were rushed. My consultation is for 30 minutes but it has never taken that long. I found his bedside manner very poor. He just rushed to write a prescription. He doesnt encourage you to ask questions and jumps up ushering me to the door. There is no warmth, no empathy. I do try to ask questions so I am not rushed but when the doctor is standing at the door after opening it I don't feel welcome. Considering the cost of the appointment and how life changing and debilitating lyme disease is I would expect much better treatment.
