About Dr. Jennifer Keane
Dr. Jennifer Keane is a Consultant Psychiatrist with advanced specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. A graduate of the University of Galway in 2013, she achieved membership with both the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland and The Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2016. With over a decade of experience in diverse psychiatric settings, Dr. Keane’s expertise spans private adult inpatient care, emergency department psychiatry, and forensic psychiatric services, including Mountjoy Prison’s in-reach programs.
Since 2018, Dr. Keane has focused her practice on child and adolescent psychiatry, working in both inpatient and outpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). She holds particular expertise in ADHD, honed during her time at ADMiRE, Ireland’s first ADHD-specific CAMHS service. Her research at Trinity College Dublin further enriched her understanding, as she explored ADHD service development and the presentation of autism within this population.
Dr. Keane has experience in managing complex mental health cases, frequently collaborating with paediatricians, primary care providers, and disability services. She incorporates a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques into her treatment approach, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with a strong focus on trauma-informed care and comprehensive clinical formulation.
Her areas of expertise encompass ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and neurodiversity-affirming approaches. She is particularly engaged with the latest research by autistic academics on neurodiversity and cultural perspectives, integrating these insights into her clinical practice to provide sensitive and inclusive care.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Keane is a guest lecturer for postgraduate programs at the University of Galway. My experience was actually when look back made so easy due to Dr Jennifer Keane been so professional. I woulld have been anxious previous to appointment. She made the experience very relaxing and was easy to open up in the comfort the information been shared was been listened too and not a box ticking excerise. Im sure each of and all members would treat a client similarly but I was wholeheartly satisifed with Jennifer and her exceptional skill of listening but to verbellise the information back nearly made more sence than what i was trying to explain to her, she just got it. Also, I just received my report back from her and again 10/10 for nailing me but with the understanding im not mad, or less off a person etc which i thought all this and worse of myself over my life.
