Dr Alshahrani has a specialised focus on conditions affecting the retina. He completed extensive training through two international fellowships in retinal surgery. One was undertaken at Queen's University in Canada, and the other was a joint programme with the Wimer Eye Institute and a major specialist eye hospital in Riyadh.
