Explanation

My hamstring avulsion following a water skiing accident was clearly a serious injury. I had researched the issues on-line, including lots of testamonials of others (who'd had similar injuries - but mainly in the US and Canada) in preparation for my first consultation with Mr Ramisetty (a recommendation from my physiotherapist who had completed an initial assessment of my injury). At our first consultation, Mr Ramisetty instructed an MRI scan after completing a phyiscal assessment, to gain a clearer picture of my injury. At our second consultation, we had a frank and open discussion about the injury, the potential for recovery and the possible complications of surgical repair. Mr Ramisetty took time to explain the options of surgery, the long and challenging recovery period and the risks (Sciatic nerve damage, scarring etc.) against a conservative treatment option. Part of that discussion focused on my quality of life and the ability to do what I wanted to do in the fullest way, in order to determine the best solution for me. Quite rightly, Mr Ramisetty tested my resolve in this matter and in particular the 'hard graft' in dealing with recovery (non weight bearing for a month, fixed knee brace, pain, physio, scarring, limited mobility, extended physio stepped programme, mental stress etc.) This was not a easy decision, but in the end, we concluded that the opportunity for a greater return to fitness was worth the risk and so the surgical solution was adopted. Details of the surgery were explained, including the use of fixed anchors in my pelvis, the debridement of scar tissue to nerves and the re-attachment of the hamstring tendons. Mr Ramisetty did point out that not everything would be certain until he could see the extent of the damage during the surgery. Surgery, although long, went well and without incident. Mr Ramisetty later explained the reason for the long duration was the care and attention he gave to protect the nerves and prevent damage. Follow ups were made regularly afterwards, including wound check at 2 weeks and a physio programme. At each follow up, assessment was made of progress and advice was given as to the next step, with a priority at the beginning of recovery to the 'healing' process. In conclusion, I think its important that you make a deal with you consultant, they do their part and you do yours (the recovery, the exercises, the medication etc.) . Mr Ramisetty has been completely professional throughout this period (which started at the first consultation in September and is still continuing in March) and has done everything he was asked. I would highy recommend Mr Ramisetty to others.
