Mr Aho was very welcoming and easy to talk to. He clearly explained what the HoLEP procedure entailed and why it was the most suitable method to address my circumstances. I was very reassured and convinced it was the best way to proceed.

A big thank you to Mr Aho and the team at the Nuffield hospital in Cambridge for a highly professional and efficient treatment process. I had a HoLEP procedure and it has worked extremely well with a fabulous stream / flow. Trips to the loo are quick and sleep much less disturbed. The recovery was totally routine and as advised. I have full control of my bladder and can now get on with my life without the constant worry and inconvenience that I had before. Mr Aho is the most experienced surgeon at this procedure in the UK and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. He has a very easy relaxed manner and takes time to explain everything thoroughly. I had 100% confidence in Mr Aho as my surgeon.

On 31st August 2023 I attended Princess Grace hospital in London for my Holep Procedure, though I had some concerns I knew I was in good hands, and had nothing to worry about!! Prior to attending for the procedure I met Mr Aho at Nuffield Cambridge, where he described the procedure, the process on the day and the recovery, all was very detailed and reassuring, all/any questions were answered fully and then at the end it was a case of driving away content that it was the right decision; I had next to nothing to worry about and it was now just the wait for arranging the operation/procedure. On the day of the procedure I was shown to my room, where I filled in necessary consent forms etc., saw Tev Aho and had a chat and reassurance, met my anaethedist, then it was wait for my ‘slot’. All nurses and staff were lovely and then time came for my procedures and I was shown to the operating rooms, lay on a high couch and was given anaesthetic; next I remember was coming round and Tev was there reassuring me that all had gone well, they’d removed 170cc or so of prostrate and all looked good!! I was then taken back to my room where I had food then slept, but throughout the night saline bags were being changed that were flushing out my bladder etc.; and at 7.00am next morning I was awakened to a nurse explaining all that would happen. I also saw Tev again and he said catheter would be removed soon and then it was just recovery thereafter. After Catheter was removed it was a matter of keep drinking small glasses of water then watch and wait for three wees into a measuring jug. Each wee was better and volume increased each time so they advised me I would be discharged!! I was given appropriate drugs, some pads, protective pants and said my farewells to a great team at the hospital. Results:- fabulous result, initially some minor blood in urine for about a week, but I was urinating normally had pretty good control, but until 8 weeks had elapsed I did have occasions of leakage and minor lack of control when getting out of a chair, the car or bending to put pants on etc. I took precautions for 3-4 weeks but since then I haven’t felt I needed pads and after eight weeks I believe my minor incontinence issues had ended, I can now go to bed at 11.00pm and sleep through until 7.00 or 8.00am without any issues and when I awake go to the bathroom for a wee and start the day normally. No accidents at night; and if late night drinking then I will wake up and go to the toilet!l All in all the procedure has been a resounding success, and now 9 months of catheterisation seems like a lifetime ago. I’m so glad I was referred to Tev Aho and his skilled teams, but I’m sure there are othe Holep professionals who would treat you appropriately; bring you the same wonderful result. Most importantly remember ‘YOU’RE IN SAFE HANDS’ and Tev and his teams are the best!! Don’t dither, just say yes and look forward to weeing normally.

Mr Aho is an excellent, caring doctor. His explanations of the HoLEP prostrate procedure were concise, well explained and most reassuring. Quite frankly, after being messed around by the NHS with my prostrate problem and left with a catheter in for 3 months, finding Tev Aho was like finding a beacon of light - he is most helpful and understanding, very quickly agreeing to my treatment via telephone / email and a video face-to-face; within weeks I was in and successfully sorted. The HoLEP went very smoothly, with no pain or problems and I was able to walk 1.5 miles to the train station the next day. All down to Mr Aho's skill and professionalism, he is a very efficient and proficient doctor, I highly recommend him.

Tev Aho performed the HOLEP procedure on me in April 2023 and the results have been truly life changing. Prior to the procedure I had all the classic symptoms of an enlarged prostate with poor urinary flow, urgency to urinate, unemptied bladder etc. I needed to plan my daily routine around toilet availability. My I-PSS score was 24 prior to the procedure. This reduced to a remarkable score of 3 after HOLEP and I can live a normal life again. Mr Aho explained the procedure and the risks comprehensively. Following the operation he explained how the procedure had gone and the recovery process. Based on my experience I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Aho to anyone considering having this procedure. Alan D.

I was completely satisfied with all aspects of my HOLEP operation, especially the successful outcome. The procedure was efficiently performed by Mr Aho and I was well briefed before and after the op so that my expectations and recovery period were not stressful. There was surprisingly little pain or discomfort and I was able to feel confident that I had made the right choice about the procedure, the surgeon and the aftercare.

From the first telephone consultation to the discharge from hospital it was a really good experience. I felt safe and comfortable.I had a catheter in for 2 months before the operation ( as the wait on NHS was 4-5 months) and immediately , 1 day after the operation I was catheter free.I have recovered really well and pee frequently with a good flow rate without any pain or discomfort. It has literally changed my life . From constantly planning and looking for a toilet to use when out, to being able to hold on for hours until required is a godsend.Tev Aho explained everything to me and even though not evryone will get 100% success , his track record on HoLEP speaks for itself. I had been living with an enlarged prostate for up to 5 yeras and consultant after consultant at the NHS recommended tablets , which didnt work, and look at diet and weight loss, all to no avail. After an incident of enlarged prostate where I could not pass fluid I ended up in hospital, and almost had reanal failure. A catheter was inserted and I was told I needed an operation which would be 4-5 months away. So I had a private consultation with a top urologist in Coventry UHC and he recommneded Tev Aho as my enlarged postate was too large for his specialist area TURP.He recommended Tev Aho, and after doing my own research I made an appointment and the rest is history.

Explanation

I was referred to Tev Aho by my encumbant neurology consultant Roland England after suffering from the condition prostatis for over 10 Years. My consultant advised that Tev AHo was the leading clinical professional in his field and that he felt he would be able to help me to overcome this life effecting ailment. My experience whilst under the care of Tev Aho was exemplary - From the time of my initial introduction to Mr Aho through to post procedure follow up consultation. To give you a brief history of my condition: Before meeting Mr Aho I had suffered with prostatitis and an increased PSA level for over 10 Years, during which time I contracted numerous bladder infections and underwent extensive long term courses of antibiotics. The condition began to worsen as my prostate enlarged to the size of a grapefruit! During this period I was prescribed a range of different pills and medicines - Some to help reduce the PSA readings and help with night time urine retention and others to physically reduce the size of the prostate. All of these came with a range of nasty side effects including night sweats, low sex drive, non ejaculation and hightenned blood pressure. This situation all came to a juncture when I had a serious issue one day and was unable to pass any urine and ended up with an emergency visit to A&E where I experienced a traumatic time when the clinical staff could not insert an emergency catheter. Eventually and after half a dozen attempts a catheter was fitted, but it resulted in some considerable trauma and a period of great discomfort and mental distress whilst in use. I was formerly advised that the issue of bladder retention would arise again and that I would need to think about a long term solution - So shortly after the removal of the emergency catheter my consultant Mr England arranged for an appointment with Mr Aho. Mr Aho’s secretary was exemplary during the initial stages and arranged for an appointment with Mr Aho to be made quickly. When I spoke to Mr Aho he took time to listen carefully to my past issues and fully understand my medical history before explaining clearly the medical options available, making his recommendations and then defining the possible side effects with each option post procedure. After due consultation with Mr Ago it was decided between both of us that the HoLEP procedure would be the most appropriate route and that due to my age and relatively good physical health he would attempt the more complicated ejaculation saving procedure. From the date of my first consultation with Mr Aho I was fortunate enough to be in theatre within a matter of weeks. My time at the Princes Grace hospital London, where the procedure was undertaken, was extremely well cared for and comfortable - I required just an overnight stay. Post procedure I was advised by Mr Aho that he had taken away a large proportion of the central core tissue of the prostate and that everything had gone well - Mr Aho then explained that the removed tissue would be sent away to confirm non cancerous. Mr Aho then explained clearly and comprehensively what I should expect symptom wise over the next few days and the following weeks and what steps I should take in order to help maximise the healing process. Following on from the procedure I noticed an immediate improvement with both eurine flow plus retention and fortunately fairly minimal physical discomfort, which over the next few months improved further still to my current state of health. Earlier this week I went to see Mr Aho along with my wife for a follow up consultation. Whilst present I undertook a urine flow test which I passed with flying colours - Achieving a perfect flow and just as importantly a fully emptied bladder achieved after urinating. During this meeting with Mr Aho it was also confirmed that there was no issue with the removed prostate tissue which was benign. We then discussed my current symptoms post procedure and I was happy to relay the following; 1) Ability to eurinate - Now perfect. No discomfort with full ability to control flow and empty a full bladder. 2) Need to eurinate urgently or during the night - Now I can control my toilet activities normally and go a full nights sleep without discomfort or the need to get up. 3) Sexual Function - Fully regained with a much stronger achieved erection and a heightened sex drive. (FYI …A previous uncomfortable side effect of the prescribed tablet medication, the flow back of ejaculation into the bladder had improved fully and now was functioning normally.) On top of this I explained how my physical health had improved dramatically and that I had regained my zest for life, this was also whole heartedly agreed upon and related by my wife, who had been worried about my condition for many Year’s.
