    Education

Mr Makarand Oak did his training in obstetrics and gynaecology in London and Manchester teaching hospitals and was appointed consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in late 80s in the British Army. He returned to the NHS and held consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist appointments in Whipps Cross and Royal Free Hospital London and
    Wishaw General Hospital Lanarkshire Scotland.

He is now in full time private practice at The London Independent Hospital where he sees NHS as well as private patients.

Mr Oak has worked in a diversity of professional, cultural, and organisational settings and has had the privilege of working alongside many nationalities in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia through UN Protection Force. He has deep understanding of women’s health, their needs, and expectations in the modern world where information is freely available on the web but not necessarily in an easily interpretable and can easily be mis-interpreted. He understands the value of empowering his patients with information that is easy to understand and this enables them to make a right choice of management for their condition.

Mr Oak was Associate Medical Director in Mid Essex NHS Trust Chelmsford and was lead for clinical audit and clinical risk management; two important pillars of clinical governance and in turn patient safety.

He believes in decision making with patients and as such
informed consent is of great interest to him. He has developed information consent papers for gynaecological procedures that he performs. He gives procedure specific information to
his patients ahead of the procedure date and this enables patients to clarify
any issues they may have and indeed to defer or cancel their procedure.

He is fully registered with the General Medical Council (UK) and keeps up to date with continuous professional development
    and annual appraisal requirements.

His special interests are gynaecological endocrinology, pelvic
pain, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, benign gynaecological surgery, minimal access surgery, vaginal surgery and reversal of sterilisation.

He maintains an ongoing record including complications of his clinical
    activities.

He has undertaken numerous research and audit projects and has published and presented in national and international journals. He has reviewed scientific papers for British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and British Medical Journal.

Mr Oak is an independent expert witness for personal injury and clinical negligence cases and has prepared reports for Plaintiffs and Defence lawyers for over 20 years.

    Mr Oak has interests in
teaching - having regularly provided education to GPs throughout his career. He has supported various charities, as well
as the charitable work of the Royal College of Obstetricians &
Gynaecologists through marathon and Kilimanjaro trek. He has undertaken voluntary teaching for midwives
and traditional birth attendants in Malawi and Sikkim in India. He is a treasurer and Trustee of Charity
    Children of Kerala.

What an amazing consultant, words cannot describe how Mr Oak rescued me from poor NHS Gynea consultant who has left me 3 years suffering from Fibroids with bad haemorrhaging and zero quality of life I had been begging my NHS Gynea for hysterectomy and his answer was it’s too risky, you have adhesions ,you might end up with Stoma bag or damage to your other internal organs. So I was offered Novosure Ablasion which the consultant said am going to do it but with your fibroids it will not work .I said why do I have to have an op that will not work and the NHS consultant said Because that’s the safest!!At that point I had had enough of NHS . I went Privately to see Mr Oak at BMI London Independent Hospita, where I was treated by the whole team with dignity and respect. Mr Oak straight away reassured me that despite having 3 Caesarian Section I can still have hysterectomy safely.Within 3 weeks since first consultation I had Subtotal Hysterectomy done by Mr Oak and his team. I am now 9 weeks post op,with no complications,no perforation of my internal organs ,no Stoma bag ,but my 100%self and even better than the last 3 years.I am now recovering very well ,and happy to have got Mr Oak as my Gyneacologist. I can go on and on but ladies I highly recommend Mr Oak as your consultant. He has saved and changed my life.I can’t thank him enough.I am looking forward to my new life thanks to Mr Makarand Oak❤️

    Fibroids
On my 1st day of meeting with Dr Oak, I was very nervous and wasn't to sure what to expected. I was told that I have fibroids and that I will need surgery. Dr Oak made me feel safe and went into details of everything. Anything I was unsure about Dr Oak knew the answer. Day of my surgery, I felt fine just because of the care and full details of what was gonna happen surgery. After the surgery the care I had was amazing. So polite, patients and overall love and care the nurses and everyone gave me made me know I could get better and start my life again. I want to thank Dr Oak for everything. The team of nurses that looked after me ( Valentina, Tashemia, Paula and the rest), also the physio team who gave me so much strength and encouragement after the op). Thank you so much.

I was well looked after when I was under Mr Oak's care. Everything was well-explained and whenever I had questions they were well answered. I would highly recommend Mr Oak for Gynaecology. I had very big fibroids and they were all successfully removed. I was informed of the diagnoses every step of the way and my recovery was well handled. Thanks you very much
