Mr Jonathan Cowie is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon practicing at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals Murrayfield and Shawfair Park.
He qualified in Medicine from the University of Nottingham in 2002, before completing his basic surgical training in Nottingham and Sydney in Australia. He subsequently moved to Edinburgh where he undertook his specialist Orthopaedic Training. He then moved back to Australia to complete a fellowship on Hip and Knee Replacement under the supervision of Professor Ross Crawford, known to be one of Australia's leading surgeons, and the first Australian Surgeon to perform robot-assisted hip replacement.
Mr Cowie also presents his research both nationally and internationally, and he also works in Fife where he regularly performs hip and procedures.

Open friendly efficient and effective

Mr Cowie was very professional and made me fell very comfortable from start to finish.

He was very open, very clear, friendly, answered all questions. He was very helpful and positive. He was maybe just a little hurried when I was talking to him. He did an excellent job in my operation, I cannot rate him too highly.

Mr Cowie was extremely caring and explained everything very clearly. The attention I received from him and the entire staff at the hospital was first class and they cared for my every need with understanding and cheerfulness.Mr Cowie has given me my life back whereas I was in constant pain and practically immobile I am now pain free and able to walk without any pain and after 6 weeks I am beginning to walk completely unsaid by even sticks. My wound has healed perfectly and my life now is more than I could ever have wished for. There are no words to express how grateful I am for all that has been done for me.

From my consultation through to my operation Mr Cowie was very approachable, very easy to talk to and a complete gentleman. He even walked me to the operating theatre which I felt was a personal touch.

My overall experience from initial consultation to post op care was excellent

I am very glad that I was under the care of Mr Cowie. He quickly diagnosed my need for a knee replacement and explained it all very well before, during and after the procedure. He has a very caring manner as well as being professional. At my follow up he explained there will be further improvement, but I am very happy with the result already. After most of three and a half years of pain, I can now walk like a normal person again. I now have the dog I longed for and can walk her as much as she wants.

Mr provided a clear explanation of my operation beforehand and lots of reassurance to allay any concerns i had. He has been quick to respond to any email queries and has provided a great service. Mr Cowie visited me before and after the operation which was good and since the operation i have been delighted with my new hip!!
