About

Dr Ajay Khandelwal is an experienced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Sociologist with over 25 years of experience. His expertise lies in supporting adults facing mental health challenges, specialising in high achieving professionals across diverse backgrounds including artistic, financial, commercial, and public sectors.

His extensive academic journey includes a PhD focusing on intergenerational family dynamics, exploring how familial influences shape individual life paths. As the Clinical Director of a pioneering psychotherapy service in London, Dr Khandelwal leads a team dedicated to understanding the complexities of mental health within the broader social and familial context.

With a background in psychoanalysis from the Guild of Psychotherapists and training as a sociologist from the University of Essex, Dr Khandelwal integrates both individual-focused and systemic approaches in his practice. He encourages initial consultations to explore the potential for collaboration, offering both short-term interventions and open-ended psychotherapy to address a variety of concerns.

Dr Khandelwal's expertise includes addiction, alcoholism, anxiety, depression, career challenges, cultural identity, family dynamics, fertility issues, loss, relationship difficulties, psychosis, and sexuality issues.

In his work with couples and family groups, Dr Khandelwal utilises his understanding of intergenerational family dynamics. By uncovering unconscious "family scripts" embedded in relationships, he assists couples in recognising and reshaping these patterns, enabling them to achieve deeper insights and enhance the quality of their relationship. He guides individuals and families in rewriting their narratives, fostering new, healthier 'scripts' for living and relating.

Explanation

Ajay is very gentle and kind - sometimes almost too much for me. I wasn’t sure initially that much progress was being made but I can now see (after maybe 6 months) that we have moved considerably.

Explanation

Overall the experience has been good and I have felt better as a result of working with Ajay. This is all pretty new to me and I'm trying to trust in the process but sometimes need guidance on what I'm supposed to talk about. I've enjoyed exploring my subconscious, which is a new experience for me and I'm looking forward to learning more about myself and hopefully tackling some bigger/long standing issues.
