Kieren Darcy performed Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) with multi-focal lenses and the results have been life changing. Gone are the days of hunting for the right pair of glasses to wear. I can now see clearly at all distances without glasses. I can wear "normal" sunglasses when it's sunny and "normal" goggle when swimming. Kieren is clearly an expert in his field and he and his team took time to fully understand my situation and needs and guide me in making the best decision. I'm a 50yr old surgeon. I asked around - I was given Mr Darcy's name. At the first appointment I was confident that I was in the right hands. Treatment options were easy to understand (I remember very little from Medical School about eyes !). I opted for lens replacement over laser. I had the eyes done 6 weeks apart (as some home and work logistics got in the way of the second procedure). My vision was already greatly improved with just 1 new lens. Now with 2 new lenses I am glasses free and there has even been noticeable ongoing improvement over the last few weeks. The procedure itself was entirely pain free - I felt some pressure/pushing for a second or 2. I was in the operating theatre for all of 12mins ! In and out of the hospital in 3 hours. Kieran has been so accessible with any questions or queries. He completely individualises and understands my needs of needing to exercise and be active. His details on the tests and pictures of the eye were fully explained beyond what I needed to know but was really informative and interesting to have more knowledge. A normal family guy. Who is as I would explain very modern medicine. I researched lots of opthamologists and medics within my family also recommended Kieran from the health care professionals due to his expertise in doing both eyes on the same day, being able to do any treatment post op (laser or other) and his approach isn't that of someone who has practiced for years. I actually asked other doctors if they were to refer to anyone post op for procedures they couldn't do who would it be and of course it was Mr. Darcy (decision made)!!!! From start to finish, I can honestly say that my experience with Kieren Darcy was handled in a totally professional and transparent way. I felt relaxed and under no pressure from the initial consultation and this allowed me time to make my clear and correct decision. His practice at the Clifton Nuffield site, has the latest machinery, which measures and checks every aspect of your Eye and this was very reassuring, as I had a very negative experience with a large multi UK Company a few years ago. On the day of the procedure, all of the staff from Ward nurse to theatre staff made you feel very welcome in a competent way making you relaxed and not having to worry. During the short procedure Kieran explained what is happening(not too much or too little) and this was very reassuring. Post Op experience also good, as I needed a question answered and this came back promptly. Hope this helps if you are thinking of having this procedure.
