I had surgery at the Wilmslow hospital in 2020 with Adam Watts who is excellent. My first time at your hospital was very good and professional. My last operation which was yesterday left a lot to be desired and was well below the standard of care that I received last time and that I would expect from any hospital whether NHS or private. I had severe pain in the recovery room yesterday and Jade, the nurse there, did everything she could to control it. But when I got back to the ward, after spending 2 and half hours nearly in the recovery room stabilising the pain, I was shocked at my nurse's attitude to get me discharged and home as quickly as she could. Rachel was my assigned nurse and Naomi took over from her at about 12:30pm. Naomi told me that the ward was getting busy and they "needed my room." I was in no condition to be discharged and I told my nurses this. I could barely walk and when I was taken to the toilet I could barely get up. I was then told I'd have 20 minutes to get dressed and be ready. Someone had to help me dress as I didn't have the strength. I nearly fell on my way to the car as Naomi wasn't holding on to me and no wheelchair was ever suggested. My wife, who is short and small, had to help me walk and get me into the car. I certainly don't wish to spend any longer than is necessary in hospital. Who does? But when I actually needed care due to still being in pain and suffering strong after effects of a bag of morphine, codeine and G.A. it seemed all anyone wanted to do was get rid of me. This was not right. I don't know who is responsible for managing the rooms on the ward or the patient numbers on any given day but I felt that the staff could not wash their hands quickly enough of me. I have never had to have any cause to complain about Wilmslow hospital and you will see from my patient records I have self funded two operations and some imaging with you and also sent my father and a friend to various consultants at your hospital. Had I received the same kind of treatment as I did yesterday I would never be able to recommend Wilmslow to anybody, which is tragic as the consultant, anaesthetist, and recovery nurses were brilliant, but the rest of the team really were well below par. I have spoken to Jade Allen who will give me the email of the hospital manager. I am not happy about the care I received yesterday and I will be writing a letter of complaint. The other issues I have had this time have been a messy and unclear pre-op admission causing several postponements and delays to the operation. I will be writing to discuss a form of reimbursement given what happened yesterday which I can't believe I am having to do. You clearly can run an excellent ship but things went very wrong yesterday.

I have had 2 multi focal lens replacements this week and can only praise my surgeon and the hospital in which he practises - to the skies! There is no part of this procedure that hurts or is in any way scary. Somehow, and this is as miraculous as the actual procedure itself, they have worked out a system of numbing the eye and carrying out this incredible life changing operation, without injections or any pain involved at all. I have had the procedure described to me by friends who did not use Mr Quah and his team and it sounds a lot more frightening, but in the capable hands of all those at the Wilmslow HCA hospital, it was made to be a walk in the park. I was offered tranquillisers with the 1st operation and I thought it would be so painful and frightening, I took them, but the 2nd time around I didn’t bother because there is nothing to be worried about at all - you literally can’t feel a thing - there is no “pressure” or sudden black out or anything weird - I was prepared to try to be brave but it was completely unnecessary! I can thoroughly recommend both Dr Harris who as a GP referred me and Dr Quah who performed the operation/s - the lovely team of both the theatre assistants and the nursing team are all so professional and skilled - they make time for each patient but it is a very slick operation which has obviously been improved over and over again with the years of their combined expertise. With Dr Harris and Dr Quah as the leads, there is a great atmosphere at all levels of the experience, they have clearly worked very hard to put together something that is technically, and in every way, brilliant. I shall be recommending HCA and lens replacement with Dr Quah to everyone With many thanks also to Dr Harris for recommending this plan of action.

Would have been a 5 star rating - certainly for the nursing staff and everyone on the medical staff. Negative review is for not being told that the car park to the rear, which is accessed via a buzzer to the hospital to raise the barrier, is only partly sectioned for hospital visitors. No clear signage to warn you on entry, in the parking area or within the hospital itself. Result a £100 penalty!
