My discharge. What was reserved as an over-night visit turned into an out-patient surgery. Very awkward. I was told pre-op that I could be discharged after I was awake, had taken water and food. After regaining consciousness I ordered what was presented to me originally, apparently the over-night menu. When I was told I was free to go I asked about the dinner, given a different menu and ordered, apparently to the surprise of the nurse. After about 30 minutes I ate the food I was told I was free to go. I asked if a taxi could be requested, which eventually resulted in the response I could "ask at reception", which I did. I waited at reception where 2 employees were talking, ignoring me I and eventually interrupted their discussion on how to enter leave requests into your system. I was told that they would "push a button and a taxi should show up out there". I waited for about 15 minutes, then just went outside to see if I could flag down a taxi. After about 5 minutes, one of the people at reception came out and told me "the taxi that responded had cancelled, sorry". So I walked to nearest underground station and took that. By the time I got to my hotel it was around 9pm and finally able to take my medications, about 6 hours after surgery. Not the best way to end a general anesthetic surgery. I felt like an inconvenience after the procedure was complete. Perhaps the shifts were ending? In USA after a simple colonoscopy the hospital escorts out to your driver in a wheel chair: no ride, no discharge. I wasn't even escorted from 4th floor to reception and took a wrong turn exiting the elevator. Perhaps senior citizens should receive a bit more "care" than what I received.

I have stayed at this hospital on three occasions and I found this time that the quality was not as good as on previous occasions. When I arrived in my room and changed into my hospital gown, the bathrobe hanging in the wardrobe for me to wear was badly soiled. The bath towel did not smell fresh and the floor was not cleaned properly. The room generally looked tired and could do with a new coat of paint.
