Ms Virag Varga

Miss Virag Varga is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery. She currently practises at IOES Waterford and IOES Cork, bringing more than 20 years of ophthalmic experience and a patient-centred approach to every aspect of care.

Miss Varga is recognised for her expertise in the full spectrum of glaucoma management, from minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) to complex filtration procedures and tube shunt surgery. She has performed thousands of cataract operations throughout her career and has contributed to the success of high-volume surgical centres, delivering consistently high standards of clinical and surgical care.

She completed her medical degree and specialist ophthalmology training at Semmelweis University in Budapest before moving to the United Kingdom to undertake advanced subspecialty surgical training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Over the past decade, Miss Varga has served as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, including four years as Clinical Lead at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, she also led the successful implementation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) upgrade, demonstrating her commitment to service development and innovation alongside clinical excellence.
