Therese Ryan is a highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapist with specialist expertise in Sports Medicine, Chronic Pain management and advanced therapeutic techniques. She graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Physiotherapy from the University of East London in 1992 and went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine at Trinity College Dublin in 1997. In 2003, she undertook an intensive residential teacher training programme at the Sivananda Ashram in the Catskill Mountains, New York, qualifying as a certified Yoga Teacher and further deepening her understanding of the mind–body connection.
Therese is a skilled practitioner of Deep Dry Needling using the Travell & Simons approach and holds certifications in Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), having completed advanced training in London and Amsterdam. In recent years, she has expanded her clinical skillset by qualifying as a Pilates Instructor and integrating the Pilates Reformer into her physiotherapy practice.
She has a particular interest in chronic pain, unresponsive sports injuries and the role of fascia in dysfunctional movement. Therese specialises in identifying and treating fascial restrictions and their impact on abnormal movement patterns, persistent pain, dysfunctional breathing and recurrent sports injuries. With decades of clinical experience, she recognises that chronic pain is a complex, multifactorial condition often involving physical, neurological and emotional components.
Her approach extends beyond symptom relief to address the root causes of discomfort. She understands that persistent pain may be maintained by maladaptive movement patterns, fascial tightness, altered breathing mechanics and heightened nervous system sensitivity. Through a combination of manual therapy, functional movement retraining and breathwork, she works to restore balance and support long-term recovery. Education is central to her philosophy; she empowers patients by helping them understand the science of pain and equipping them with practical strategies to regain control over their bodies.
Therese’s dedication to innovation in chronic pain and sports medicine has led her to collaborate with BTL Ireland Medical Devices, incorporating advanced technology into her clinical practice. She directs two Physio Labs in Thurles and Templemore, where she provides specialised, evidence-based care. Therese is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and is CORU registered.

Therese you're amazing, am so delighted a random phone call resulted in our meeting and you treating me. Can't thank you enough
As I am only part way through my treatment, it is too early to know whether the results will be as good as hoped for. To date the condition has shown some improvement so I am hoping for a positive result.
My recent visit with Therese, as always, from the care i received was excellent.
