Professor Patrick Mitchell

Professor Patrick Mitchell MD FRCPI is a Consultant Respiratory and General Internal Medicine Physician and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. A graduate of University College Dublin (UCD), he completed specialist training in respiratory and internal medicine in Ireland before pursuing a prestigious clinical and research fellowship at McMaster University, Canada.

During his time at McMaster, Professor Mitchell conducted translational research on airway inflammation in asthma, culminating in the award of a Medical Doctorate (MD) by thesis. He was subsequently appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary, where he also served as Director of the Southern Alberta Asthma and COPD Program.

His clinical and academic interests span the management of complex airways and interstitial lung diseases, including severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease (ILD), sarcoidosis, chronic cough, and vasculitis. He has a particular focus on biologic therapies, digital health innovation, and the design of transitional care models for asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions.
