Dr. Mireia Roca Cabau

Dr Mireia Roca Cabau is a well-qualified Consultant Ophthalmologist with international experience of advanced vitreoretinal and cataract surgery. She qualified from the University of Lleida and completed her specialist training at the Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid. She then went on to undertake fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London where she received specialised training in the medical and surgical management of all the complex retinal pathologies including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and macular disease.

Dr Roca Cabau is also actively engaged in research and was awarded a PhD Cum Laude from the Universidad Autnoma de Madrid for research focused on novel therapies for the treatment of intraocular retinoblastoma.

She also continues to participate in clinical trials involving new therapies for retinal conditions. Dr Roca Cabau believes in promoting universal eye health and balances private practice with considerable voluntary work, combining both, working in the ophthalmology services of Dakar, Senegal where she has helped create a new Retina Service and continues to deliver surgical training and guidance for the local ophthalmologists there, enabling the development of specialised vitreoretinal care in the country.
