Dr. Maxwell Treacy

Dr Maxwell Treacy is a leading Consultant Ophthalmologist and Cataract & Retinal Surgeon based in Dublin, with specialist expertise in complex retinal disease and advanced cataract surgery. He is Chairman and Clinical Director of Medical Optics and holds a consultant position at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

Dr Treacy holds fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). He completed advanced fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world’s leading eye centres, where he developed specialist expertise in vitreoretinal surgery and the management of complex retinal conditions.

Dr Treacy is recognised for his contribution to ophthalmic innovation in Ireland and was part of the surgical team involved in delivering the first-ever gene therapy treatment (Luxturna) in Ireland for an inherited retinal disease in 2025.

His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of complex eye conditions, with particular expertise in retinal disorders, vitreoretinal surgery, and advanced cataract procedures. He is committed to combining cutting-edge techniques with personalised patient care to achieve the best possible visual outcomes.

Beyond his surgical work, Dr Treacy is dedicated to improving access to specialist eye care within the community. Through his leadership in the “Total Care” partnership with Specsavers, he supports initiatives aimed at bringing specialist ophthalmic services closer to patients and enhancing local eye health provision.
