Mr Maged Habib

Mr. Maged Habib is a Cataract and Vitreoretinal Specialist. With practices at IOES Cork and IOES Waterford, Maged brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role.

During his tenure at Sunderland Eye Infirmary, one of the UK's premier tertiary referral centres, Maged served as a retina specialist and played a pivotal role in co-leading the South-of-the-Tyne Diabetic Retinopathy screening program. His research endeavours led to collaborations with esteemed universities in the UK, focusing on developing artificial intelligence algorithms for detecting and monitoring diabetic eye disease.

He completed a Masters' Degree in Ophthalmology from Ain Shams University in Cairo. He furthered his qualifications with fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London, followed by the attainment of a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree from Newcastle University. His Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle paved the way for his career as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon since 2011.

Throughout his career, Maged has been at the forefront of clinical research, serving as the Chief and primary applicant of multiple large-scale clinical studies. His dedication to advancing technology and translational research is evident in his role as a Principle Investigator for more than 10 international clinical trials. Maged's expertise spans the management of complex Macular Degeneration cases, Diabetic Eye Disease, and surgical repair of various retinal and macular disorders.

Passionate about improving visual outcomes and patient welfare, Maged remains committed to the development of new treatments for diabetic eye disease and other retinal pathologies. As an honorary clinical Senior Lecturer at Biosciences Institute, Newcastle University, and a recognised international speaker in ophthalmic congresses, he continues to shape the future of ophthalmology through innovation and research.
