Ms Lydia Kernan

Ms Lydia Kernan is a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. She completed a Master’s degree in Social Work in 2006 and later obtained her clinical psychotherapy license, beginning her practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2010. Lydia is currently completing an MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at University College Dublin, expected in 2025.

Originally trained and practiced in the United States, Lydia has worked across diverse clinical settings, including substance abuse rehabilitation centres and university counselling services. This breadth of experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health across different life stages and environments. Her clinical interests include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, and substance misuse.

Lydia’s therapeutic approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and client-centred. She is committed to creating a calm, confidential, and supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. Sessions are paced carefully, with an emphasis on building trust and exploring experiences without judgement. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based approaches, and psychoanalytic theory, Lydia tailors therapy to meet each individual’s unique needs, fostering insight, resilience, and meaningful change.
