Joanne Rooney

Joanne Rooney is a highly experienced systemic psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience delivering specialised mental health services across both public (HSE) and private sectors. Her approach is deeply rooted in understanding individuals within the context of their relationships, families, and wider social systems.

Throughout her career, Joanne has worked across the full spectrum of mental health care. Her background includes frontline roles in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), adult inpatient units, psychiatry of older persons, and forensic mental health settings. She has also served as a community-based self-harm and suicide crisis nurse. This diverse experience equips her to work confidently with a wide array of complex clinical presentations, life transitions, and psychological distress.

Joanne has extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families, helping them navigate a world not always built for their needs. She also works closely with adults managing chronic illness, addressing the profound psychological and emotional impact of long-term physical health conditions.In addition, Joanne provides dedicated, affirmative support to the LGBTI+ community. She offers a safe, therapeutic space for individuals and their families to navigate the exploration of sexuality, gender identity, and the complexities of the transition process.

To provide truly comprehensive care, Joanne integrates her systemic foundation with advanced, evidence-based modalities. She holds specialised training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which focuses on emotional regulation and distress tolerance, as well as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), an effective therapy for resolving trauma.
