Mr James Hepburn

Mr. James Hepburn is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon affiliated with the Mater Private Network in Cork. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Mr. Hepburn completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia. He later pursued his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), graduating in 2006.

Driven by a passion for orthopaedic surgery, Mr. Hepburn earned a Master of Surgery from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2011. His dedication to advancing his expertise led him to join the Specialist Training Scheme in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in Ireland in 2013. During his residency, Mr. Hepburn gained valuable experience at Cork University Hospital and the South Infirmary Hospital, specialising in trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in 2019.

Seeking further specialisation, Mr. Hepburn pursued training in paediatric orthopaedic surgery at University Hospital Southampton, UK, in 2019. Here, he developed his surgical skills, focusing on areas such as patellar instability, adolescent ACL reconstruction, and developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Upon completing his fellowship, Mr. Hepburn returned to Ireland and served as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Limerick, where he focused on paediatric surgery, trauma, and hip arthroplasty during the pandemic. Eager to expand his expertise, he undertook a fellowship at the Sports Surgery Clinic in 2022, where he gained proficiency in ACL reconstruction, knee and hip arthroplasty, and meniscal repair.

Mr. Hepburn's special interests lie in hip and knee primary arthroplasty, including partial knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, meniscal tears, cartilage damage, and tendinopathies. With a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence, Mr. Hepburn continues to provide exceptional care to his patients.
