Dr Ian McClelland

Dr Ian McClelland is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with more than two decades of medical experience across the UK and Ireland. His work combines specialist CAMHS practice, liaison psychiatry, trauma-focused therapy and medico-legal assessment, with a particular focus on adolescents and complex presentations.

He currently works as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at St Vincent’s Hospital, Fairview, Dublin, a role he has held since November 2021. He also continues to work within HSE adolescent CAMHS services and maintains a private practice offering EMDR therapy and medico-legal psychiatric assessments.

A distinctive part of Dr McClelland’s private practice is EMDR therapy, which he provides to both adolescents and adults. This work complements his broader psychiatric experience in trauma, emotional dysregulation and complex mental-health presentations.

Dr McClelland also provides independent medico-legal psychiatric assessments and reports, drawing on his experience as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. His work in this area includes expert opinion on psychiatric presentation, diagnosis, impact and prognosis.

His background reflects a broad combination of clinical psychiatry, liaison work, trauma therapy, healthcare management and clinical governance. His experience across NHS, HSE, hospital and private settings allows him to work with young people whose difficulties may involve emotional, behavioural, developmental, family or medically complex factors.

Dr McClelland also works with young people with intellectual disabilty and has provided support to an array of services across Ireland, managing mental health difficulties.
