Mr Graeme Rogers is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in glaucoma, cataract surgery and retinal disease. His specialist practice focuses on conditions affecting the optic nerve and retina, alongside the surgical treatment of cataracts. Following his medical education and specialist ophthalmology training in South Africa, he undertook further subspecialty fellowships in Australia and Ireland, developing expertise in complex glaucoma and retinal conditions. He also has a strong academic background, with peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences.
Mr Rogers specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases. His practice includes the surgical management of cataracts, assessment and treatment of glaucoma, and the management of complex medical and surgical retinal conditions. He also has experience in uveitic glaucoma, which can develop in association with inflammation inside the eye. His subspecialty training supports the assessment of conditions that may threaten vision and require ongoing monitoring, medical treatment or surgery.
Mr Rogers completed eight years of specialist clinical and surgical ophthalmology training at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, including a two-year cataract fellowship at Eerste River Hospital in Cape Town.
In 2014, he undertook subspecialty training in glaucoma at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, including experience in specialist uveitic glaucoma clinics. He subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in complex medical and surgical retinal disease in Dublin in 2017. He currently practises as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Beacon Hospital in Dublin and provides specialist eye care through Dublin Ophthalmic.
Mr Rogers has published 14 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at international conferences. His academic contributions include work on cataract surgery techniques and ophthalmic surgical practice. He has also pursued further professional development through visits to specialist ophthalmic centres internationally, broadening his exposure to advanced surgical techniques.
Mr Rogers focuses on identifying the cause and severity of each patient's eye condition and explaining the available treatment options. For conditions such as glaucoma and retinal disease, careful assessment and regular monitoring are important to managing progression and protecting vision. Where surgery is recommended, he aims to help patients understand the procedure, its potential benefits and risks, and the expected follow-up care.
