About Ms Fiona Stout

Fiona Stout has been working as a movement therapist for four years and teaching group classes for over fourteen. She recently certified as an NMT under clinical anatomist John Sharkey and is qualified in the Be Activated Sequence under kinesiologist and physiotherapist Douglas Heel. Her PhD focused on fascia (the body’s interconnective soft tissue matrix) and bodies on a spectrum of traumatised to something called “flow-state.” Her initial training was as a performer, first as a classical pianist and then as a classical actor; she has studied a variety of movement and voicework techniques and brings a unique blend of training to her sessions.

Highlights in training as a movement therapist include myofascial release and Traditional Chinese Medicine informed women’s health under Tiffany Cruikshank at YogaMedicine; Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy Mentorship under Arielle Schwartz, Manuela Mischke-Reeds, and Staci Haines; and fascia-informed pilates under Susan Church.

I have been working out with Fiona for a few months now. She is highly trained and has a PhD focusing on fascia and trauma. During a Pilates class, Fiona spotted an issue with my knee and immediately recognised that it wasn’t safe for me to continue with regular classes at that point, and she was absolutely right. We have been doing a combination of neuromuscular therapy and Pilates, and I’ve been really impressed by how thorough she is. She pays attention to every detail and adapts the exercises carefully to what my body needs. She has a very gentle approach and a calm voice that makes you feel relaxed and at ease straight away. A big part of her approach is the mind-body connection, particularly breathing and awareness of movement, which was something that had really been missing from my previous training. Rather than simply focusing on completing exercises, she helps you understand how your body is moving and responding. As someone who has had several exercise-related injuries, I have really benefited, and continue to benefit, from working with Fiona. I feel very confident in her knowledge and approach and would highly recommend her!

I have been working with Fiona for chronic pain due to endometriosis and hypermobility and she has given me so many tools that help me day to day. We initially started working together to help with fertility but her practice has opened up many other issues that have helped me identify broader issues that I've been able to work with directly with her and my GP.
