Hello and welcome.
My name is Feargal Murphy. I’m an addiction counsellor with 20 years’ experience, supporting
people from a wide range of backgrounds through different stages of change, recovery, trauma
healing, and personal development.
I’m based in Ireland and offer online counselling for people who want to break patterns of
behaviour that no longer serve them. My work covers a broad range of substance use and
dependency concerns—and the impact these patterns can have not only on the individual, but
also on partners, family members, and others close to them.
How I work with substance use
You do not need to be drug-free to begin counselling with me. I support clients who are currently
using drugs and/or alcohol, helping them clarify goals and move towards change at a pace that
is realistic and safe.
Clients may aim for:
● Abstinence, or
● Controlled/reduced use (where appropriate—particularly with alcohol)
Once substance use is under control or has stopped, therapy can often move into a deeper
process of exploring what the substance may have been helping to manage—such as stress,
emotional pain, or difficult life experiences.
Issues I can help with
People often use substances to cope with underlying challenges, which may include:
● Trauma and childhood trauma
● Bereavement and loss
● Domestic abuse and violence
● Sexual abuse
● Bullying
● Low self-esteem, low self-worth, and low confidence
● Relationship difficulties and family strain
● Broader mental health and emotional wellbeing concerns
Change can feel challenging because it moves us out of our comfort zone. In therapy, we aim to
work in the “learning zone”—slightly uncomfortable at times, but safe and supportive—where
meaningful growth and lasting change can happen.
Together, we focus on developing clarity, resilience, and long-term coping strategies.
I work with adults and adolescents (16+).
Therapeutic approach
I work from an integrative framework, tailoring therapy to each client’s goals, needs, and
circumstances. Approaches I draw on include:
● Humanistic & Person-Centred Therapy: A warm, empathic, non-judgemental space
that supports client-led growth.
● Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Identifying and changing unhelpful thinking
patterns and behavioural cycles.
● Psychodynamic Therapy: Exploring how past experiences and unconscious processes
shape present-day feelings, behaviours, and relationships.
● Compassion-Focused & Mindfulness Approaches: Building self-compassion and
practical tools for stress and emotional regulation.
Appointments
I offer appointments:
● Evenings (outside standard 9–5 working hours)
● Saturday mornings (often in high demand, but I do my best to accommodate)
If you feel ready to talk, I’d be glad to support you.

€70Feargal is extremely caring and welcoming. I was daunted attending therapy for the first time. But he instantly put me at ease with his down to earth friendly ways. Going to appointments felt like going for a chat with a really good friend, except that friend is unbiased and also qualified in providing evidence based methods to help me work through my issues. He strikes a rare balance between providing support and guidance, always validated my feel without judgement, while maintaining a sense of humour which was badly needed by me at the time. Overall, my confidence improved and Feargal gave me the tools to understand myself and manage future problems.

Thank you for your kind words and feedback. I enjoyed our time working together and am very happy to hear your experience of my professional style and approach. Thanks again.
I worked with Feargal for about 2 years. He was very easy to be honest with and connect to. I never felt judged or shame when working with him. At the beginning I shared my main objectives with him and I feel like I hit them and more. He gave me the tools to deal with challenges in life as they come up. Since we finished our routine sessions, I had 2 occasions where I went back for a few weeks at a time to get through some particularly challenging situations and it was great to go back to someone i had already built trust with. Not picking up where we left off because that chapter was closed but for shorter term support. I'd highly recommend Feargal.

Thank you for your feedback. We did some great therapeutic process work together. Thanks again for trusting in the process.
I had a very positive experience and found them to be professional, supportive and genuinely helpful throughout. They have a very personal and human approach, which made it easy to feel comfortable and understood. Their style feels natural and individual rather than clinical or impersonal, while still remaining professional at all times. I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a compassionate and thoughtful counsellor.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your kind feedback. I really appreciate your thoughtful words and am grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Wishing you all the very best for the future.
When i first met Feargal i was lost I couldn’t face my self I had a eating disorder and I had other addiction and the last counselling session I had with Feargal he had helped me understand why I was in this pain internally and helped me understand what was going on and slowly I was able to piece by piece build My self back up , Giving me strategies that I use still now to this day , Recognising feelings was coming up in my body not just the chatter in my mind

Thank you so much for your kind feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Therapy is most meaningful when there is genuine collaboration between the client and counsellor, and I feel that we were able to build that together. Thank you again for your trust and for your thoughtful words.
