Edel Swords

After 46 years of deep-set trauma, Edel helped release what years of counselling could not. Through her gentle guidance and the safe, compassionate environment she created, I was finally able to release what my body had been holding onto for most of my life. Edel has been facilitating our Cancer Support Group for over 15 years. She creates a space that is warm and welcoming and has a way of settling even the most anxious participants. What can I say, Edel is a genius. Not only is she a therapist but a teacher aswell. Now that the acute trauma is behind me, she is teaching me to move forward & her work is empowering me to meet life head-on & enjoy/embrace the challenges as they appear. I had been to other therapists before but it wasn’t until I started working with Edel that my life has finally changed for the better. I was very fortunate to be able to attend Edel Swords for a series of sessions recently, having suffered what I know to be depression and a collapse of my whole psychological/ nervous system..and which was not really helped by the conventional medical/ mental health services approach, particularly since medications were not an option for me due to an underlying condition..( not that I wanted to be medicated, it only treats symptoms, not causes, and I say that as a healthcare professional) Edel works with patients/ clients on a level that encompasses the person as a whole , her extensive indepth knowledge of the body, the nervous system, and how they interact, as well as being able to effectively " see" where a person is carrying/ storing emotions that were repressed and trapped within the body, sometimes for decades..and which have caused often distorted patterns of behaviour to evolve within the person as they learned to cope/ deal with / survive adverse events in childhood and into adulthood..and how these in turn affect the body and its organs ..Edel gently but firmly guides a person towards accessing memories and their associated emotions that were long forgotten..She teaches one how to recognise and connect the feeling in the present, the trigger, to an incident/ event when that feeling was first experienced .. I have been going to treatments with Edel Swords since I was 12 years old, I am now 20 years old. Over the past 8 years, having quite the traumatic childhood, Edel has made a beautiful space for me and the little girl inside of me and has taught me how to hold her through the healing process. With that, she taught me how to have patience in times when healing almost felt impossible, on days where I felt like I was going backwards ( when I was actually going forwards without realising.) I highly recommend treatments with Edel Swords if you are willing to open yourself to meet her half way.
