Derek is a pre-accredited therapist who graduated from IICP College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. His core training is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy and Choice/Reality Theory, while also drawing on a variety of other therapeutic approaches. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Bereavement and Addiction Counselling, Relationship/Marital Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy.

Derek is recognised for his ability to build strong and authentic connections with clients, often at a deep and meaningful level. He attributes this to his own lived experiences of trauma, extending from childhood through adulthood, alongside challenges such as workplace stress, bullying, and burnout. These experiences have shaped his empathy and ignited a passion for supporting others. His personal journey offers him a unique perspective on the struggles clients face and informs the compassion, resilience, and authenticity he brings to his therapeutic work.

Derek has experience working with a wide range of issues, including family and relationship difficulties, sexuality, complex childhood trauma, grief and loss, coercion, Rape, bullying, anxiety, depression, assault, overthinking, and self-sabotage.
