Dr. David Shahnazaryan

Dr. David Shahnazaryan is an ophthalmologist whose clinical interests include refractive surgery, cataract surgery, corneal and anterior segment surgery, dry eye disease, keratoconus and eyelid surgery. His interests also include complex cataract surgery, corneal transplantation and anterior segment reconstruction.

Originally from Armenia, Dr. Shahnazaryan completed his initial medical degree and a residency in Plastic Surgery there before undertaking extensive ophthalmology training in Ireland. During his training, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine, a higher research degree based on research into corneal diseases with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He also completed a fellowship in Refractive Surgery under Professor Michael O'Keefe.

Dr. Shahnazaryan subsequently undertook further fellowships in Oculoplastics and Cornea in the UK. He has published numerous articles in ophthalmology journals and is an invited national and international speaker on cataract, refractive and anterior segment surgery. He is also a reviewer for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology.

Dr. Shahnazaryan co-founded the AECOS Green Working Group, which focuses on sustainability in ophthalmology, and is a member of the AECOS Educational Committee. He also regularly contributes to voluntary eye-care missions in Armenia aimed at reducing preventable blindness and improving access to quality eye care.
